Cockatiel feather plucking?
I have two male cockatiels. A lutino and white faced grey. I got the lutino first and he was hand-fed by me. He has bonded with me and wants nothing to do with the other one. The grey seems to be trying to bond with the lutino and he tolerates me, but much prefers the lutino. I decided to get a female for the grey. I went to the breeder where I got my first two, and saw a female cockatiel in a cage with 4 eggs laying on the bottom of her cage. She was given to the breeder by someone that just wanted to get rid of her, did not want her any longer and did not take very good care of her. She looked so sad and dejected and I noticed she has hardly any feathers on her back or under her wings. I suspect she has been plucking her feathers. It just broke my heart. I just had to take her home. Is there anything I can do for the areas that are featherless? Is there a lotion or something I can apply. It is very red looking. I plan on taking her to an Avian Vet (today is Sunday), but until I do is there anything I can do to make her more comfortable.
